Dear Colleagues and Friends,

There is just over a week to go before applications for membership to ProSPER.Net close. Membership is limited to higher education institutions located in the Asia-Pacific region that offer postgraduate education and research in sustainable development (SD) and in fields related to education for sustainable development (ESD). Details about the application process and how to apply can be found here. The deadline is 30 April, 2019 (11:59pm JST).

As always, if you would like to contribute any news, upcoming events, or publications for upcoming bulletins, we would love to hear from you. Please complete this form and email your submission to the ProSPER.Net Secretariat at ProSPERNet@unu.edu (submissions close on the 15th of each month).

ProSPER.Net Joint Meetings: General Assembly and Board Meeting

The ProSPER.Net Joint Meetings, the 13th General Assembly and the 19th Board Meeting, will be hosted by Miyagi University of Education on 18 October, 2019, in Sendai, Japan.

The annual joint meeting is an occasion where ProSPER.Net members convene to discuss and exchange ideas for future activities and strategy of the network, as well as to discuss new membership and joint research proposals.

Global Sharing Week

16-22 June, 2019, worldwide

Sharing has the power to change the world; it can transform the economy and society at large. Global Sharing Week’s aim is to enable people to access shared resources, whilst promoting the benefits of swapping, borrowing, collaborating, and sharing. This year’s theme will be ‘Sharing Can Change the World’. Anyone can register their event for this annual celebration of the sharing economy. Read more

ProSPER.Net Joint Research Project Featured At APFSD 2019

On 27 March, 2019, the United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS), jointly with UNESCO Bangkok and the Ministry of the Environment Japan (MOEJ), organised a side event at the 6th Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development 2019 (APFSD 2019) in Bangkok, Thailand.

The topic of the event focused on the role of higher education for achieving the SDGs and aimed to share the findings from the ProSPER.Net joint project ‘Development of a Framework for the Local Implementation of the SDGs’, with case studies presented by the four ProSPER.Net members involved in the project. Open Calls

2019 ProSPER.Net Joint Research Projects

The call for 2019 ProSPER.Net Joint Project Proposals is currently open until the end of July 2019. Proposals from participating institutions must assist in the implementation of the SDGs through research, with an outcome that leads to education and outreach through curriculum development and various learning initiatives. Applications need to be prepared with at least three ProSPER.Net members participating, following and using the ProSPER.Net Joint Project Proposal Guidelines and Project Proposal Application. The deadline for submissions is 31 July, 2019. Further details can be viewed here.

30 Innovations for Disaster Risk Reduction

This publication features 30 of the most effective technologies and innovations, including products and approaches, that can contribute to reducing disaster risks and preparing for future disasters. It was developed by a group of individuals from the International Institute of Disaster Science (IRIDeS) at Tohoku University, Keio University, the University of Tokyo, the United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS), and Church World Service (CWS) Japan, in collaboration with the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) Multi-Hazards Program.
