Joint Research Proposal (open only to ProSPER.Net members, deadline 26th May)ProSPER.Net members are encouraged to submit joint research proposals for 2017. Proposals need to be prepared following the updated ProSPER.Net Project Guidelines. Submitted proposals will be reviewed by the Board prior to the General Assembly in July. Approved projects should be implemented within six months following approval, and should be completed within one year. ProSPER.Net Mobility Programmes - More Universities Come on BoardStudent Exchange, Faculty and Researchers’ Exchange, Graduate and Post-Graduate Programmes and other options are now available to ProSPER.Net students. Benefit as a ProSPER.Net member from Programmes other Members have to offer! Five ProSPER.Net universities have now shared their mobility options among the network. Find out in this newsletter how Miyagi University of Education and Prince of Songkla University use their pogrammes and activities to engage students and researchers from other ProSPER.Net member universities. Mark your calendar for upcoming ProSPER.Net eventsProSPER.Net Leadership Programme 2017: Building transformational leadership towards the SDGs 29 June - 5 July, 2017, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand The programme will provide participants with the necessary inter-disciplinary skills to lead sustainable development initiatives appropriate to local, regional or global contexts. Participants will go through a unique experience during the Programme with a special focus on collaborative efforts, leveraging networks and involving multiple stakeholders. Young Researchers’ School (YRS) 20176-15 March, 2017, International University – Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam The ProSPER.Net Secretariat received an overwhelming response during this year’s application process, with 48 applications from 13 ProSPER.Net member institutes and 12 countries. International Symposium on Biodiversity and Sustainability12 March, 2017, UNU-Headquarters, Tokyo UNU-IAS, together with the University of Tokyo Integrated Research System for Sustainability Science (IR3S), will co-host this symposium that will bring together leading experts to discuss the integration of social and ecological systems, including the valuation of ecosystem services, with a view to contributing to building societies in harmony with nature, achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and promoting sustainability science. Resilience 2017 conference20-23 August, 2017, Stockholm, Sweden Organised by the Stockholm Resilience Centre and sponsored by Future Earth, this conference will be linked together with a science-policy-practice day on 24 August. Read more Five Challenges of Analysing Progress – and How We Got Around ThemSadly, it’s often the positive development stories that don’t make the headlines – for example how Nepal has reduced maternal mortality by an estimated 75% since the early 1990s; how Peru lowered urban poverty from 42% to 16% between 2001 and 2013, or how Burkina Faso reclaimed 2-300,000 hectares of land from the Saharan desert over the past 30 years. National Students Union (NSU) Survey on SustainabilityThis survey initiated by NSU and the results clearly show how much students care about sustainability. 80 per cent of them want their institution to be doing more on sustainable development, 60 per cent of students want to learn more about sustainability. Urban Environmental Education Review, Russ and Krasny, eds., 2017According to 90 scholars from six continents, environmental education in cities can foster urban sustainability, as showcased in this book. Three themes—participation of urban residents in planning and environmental stewardship, exploring and reconstructing urban places, and forming partnerships among disciplines and organizations who care about the urban environment—emerged as critical.
