Message from the ProSPER.Net Secretariat:

Dear colleagues and friends,

This year’s ProSPER.Net Young Researchers’ School (YRS) was a full success. Held at TERI University, New Delhi, India on 1-12 February, 2016, the theme of the 2016 ProSPER.Net YRS was ‘Sustainable Energy for Transforming Lives: Availability, Accessibility, Affordability’.

The aim of the researchers’ school is to offer an opportunity for students to be exposed to sustainability issues, while developing research skills, and to further encourage a network of students/future professionals and academics working on sustainable development. Applications were open for PhD students from ProSPER.Net member universities and the School was taught by leading sustainability experts from ProSPER.Net member universities across the Asia-Pacific region and internationally.

The participants developed advanced knowledge and skills in sustainability research and practice, with a special focus on sustainable energy, energy efficiency and renewable energy, in-depth research design and planning skills, received advice on their own thesis and related research proposals and finally became part of a network of sustainability researchers in the Asia-Pacific region.

This year 17 students from ten ProSPER.Net member universities took part in the School:

• Keio University (Japan)

• University of Tokyo (Japan)

• RMIT (Australia)

• Queensland University of Technology (Australia)

• Tongji University (China)

• Chinese Academy of Sciences -Institute of Applied Ecology (China)

• AIT (Thailand)

• King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (Thailand)

• Prince of Songkla University (Thailand)

• TERI (India)

Participants particularly appreciated the interactive and practical programme and the possibility to network during and after the School. The World Café style session on the last day allowed for discussion on how future programmes can look like in terms of content and structure.

Lectures and related movies have now been uploaded on ProSPER.Net. Photos can be found on facebook. The group reports and research proposals developed by each group will also be shared soon.

Sincerely,

ProSPER.Net Secretariat
