Educational opportunities include two-year Master’s Environmental Management and Sustainable Development (SD) programmes, integrating different University colleges in their training and working with resource persons from all over Asia. The institute also offers short leadership and water management programmes. Sustainable Development is practised in all realms of University life (e.g., saving water and electricity inside buildings).
IESD is being used as a case university in Shanghai for its research focusing on environment and SD. Focal research areas include water resource reuse, solid waste, Atmospheric Brown Cloud (ABC) and the promotion of Green GDP practice in China. Outreach engagements include cooperation with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) under the Memorandum of Agreement (MOU) in addition to collaborations with the Asia Pacific University, Zurich Research Center, Suzhou City in China, NGOs, private sector and other universities in training. They are also looking to improve collaboration with more institutions in China and other developing countries in Asia and Africa.
