2014 YRS

The main goal of the Young Researchers’ School (YRS) is to provide graduate students with an opportunity to better understand the spectrum of challenges that underpin sustainable development. By assembling these young scientists together for an intensive two-week workshop, the school fosters the growth of a network of sustainability scholars and professionals in the Asia-Pacific region.

The 2014 YRS was held at Tongji University, Shanghai, People’s Republic of China from 15 to 26 September.

The theme of the 2014 school was ‘Urban Planning for Sustainable Development: Water Resources and Ecosystem Management’. Discussions will be focused on policies and projects involving a) urban planning and green architecture, b) water resource management, treatment and safe water supply, c) wetland ecosystem and healthy agriculture and d) green economy and sustainable consumption. Through lectures and field trips where different projects were presented, students were able to develop research responses to several challenges that provide integrative solutions as considering urban planning, water resources and ecosystem management.
