Asian Institute of Technology

Sustainable Development Education is integrated into AIT programmes at large, including a new Master’s Programme on SD, a one-year professional Master’s programme and minor programmes on SD integrated with other majors. Millennium Development Goals (MDG)-related courses and doctoral programmes are still being planned. A current challenge has been figuring out how to integrate SD approaches into management and technology faculties. Research activities are conducted in collaboration with the Wetland Alliance, constituting of four institutes, focusing on the conservation of wetlands around the Mekong region.

Grounded research is conducted on the local, regional, national and international levels. Outreach engagements are done in collaboration with universities around the world. They conduct business continuity planning, provide courses for Lao government officials and perform collaborative research with the Wetland Alliance. Further, AIT has been designated by the United Nations as the permanent site of the world’s first Regional Centre of Excellence on MDG, dedicated to the promotion and achievement of the MDGs in Southeast Asia through education and training.
